Dry Eye Treatment in Costa Mesa, CA

Dry, irritated eyes can make everyday activities uncomfortable, whether you're working on a computer, wearing contact lenses, or spending time outdoors. At Custom Eyes Optometry, we provide personalized dry eye treatment in Costa Mesa, CA, to help patients manage symptoms and improve their daily comfort. Our approach focuses on identifying the underlying causes of dry eye and recommending appropriate treatment options for lasting symptom management.

What Is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. A healthy tear film is essential for keeping your eyes lubricated, protecting the ocular surface, and maintaining clear vision.

Dry eye can develop due to aging, hormonal changes, certain medications, environmental conditions, or problems with the oil-producing glands in your eyelids. Without proper management, symptoms may become persistent and interfere with daily activities.

Common Symptoms of Dry Eye

Dry eye symptoms vary from person to person and may affect one or both eyes. Common signs include:

• Burning, stinging, or irritated eyes

• Redness and a gritty or sandy sensation

• Blurry or fluctuating vision

• Sensitivity to light

• Excessive watering or tearing

• Discomfort while wearing contact lenses

• Eye fatigue during reading or screen use

If these symptoms occur frequently, a dry eye evaluation at our Costa Mesa optometry practice can help identify potential causes and guide treatment.

How We Diagnose Dry Eye Disease

Effective dry eye treatment begins with understanding what's causing your symptoms. At Custom Eyes Optometry, we perform a comprehensive evaluation of your eyes, tear film, and eyelids to assess tear production and overall ocular surface health.

We also review your medical history, medications, daily habits, and environmental factors that may contribute to dryness. Depending on your symptoms, we may evaluate the meibomian glands, which produce the oils that help prevent tears from evaporating too quickly.

This personalized approach allows us to recommend treatments based on your specific needs rather than simply addressing temporary discomfort.

Dry Eye Treatment Options

Dry eye treatment in Costa Mesa depends on the type and severity of your condition. Some patients experience relief through changes to their daily routines, while others benefit from additional medical treatment.

Depending on your evaluation, we may recommend lubricating eye drops, warm compresses, eyelid hygiene, or adjustments to your screen habits and surrounding environment. Prescription medications or other treatments may also be considered when clinically appropriate.

For patients experiencing contact lens discomfort related to dryness, we can evaluate whether changes to their lenses or wearing routine may improve comfort.

Our goal is to develop an individualized treatment plan that helps manage symptoms and supports healthier, more comfortable eyes.
